Funds deposited before 9:00 p.m. ET on a business day will generally be available the next business day. Funds deposited before 8:00 p.m. PT on a business day will generally be available the next business day.
Currently, cheque clearing through Cheque Truncation System (CTS) operates in a batch processing mode and has a clearing cycle of up to two working days.
Paying in cheques at a Post Office.
That means if you pay a cheque into your account at a Post Office on a Monday (day zero), it should show on your account on the Wednesday (day 2 / second working day).
However, bank cheques should not be regarded as equivalent to cash, and you may be unable to withdraw the value of a bank cheque until it has cleared. Generally, it takes three working days from the time you deposit the bank cheque, until the proceeds are available as cleared funds in your account.
Still, you might wonder: “What time does direct deposit hit my bank account?” The short answer is that you'll typically be able to access a direct deposit by 9 a.m. on the morning of your payday and sometimes as early as midnight. ¹ That said, the exact timing of when direct deposit hits can vary.
You'll normally need to wait 1 working day after the day you pay the cheque in for it to clear, so if you pay a cheque in on Monday (before 3.30pm) it will usually clear by Tuesday.
Generally, it takes two to five business days to get all the funds from a check into your account. However, some factors might hold up the check-clearing process, like the status of your account or the place where you deposited the check.

Cheque Truncation System (CTS) currently processes cheques with a clearing cycle of up to two working days. Cheques will be scanned, presented, and passed in a few hours and on a continuous basis during business hours, RBI added.
When you deposit a check, you typically get a receipt that specifies when the funds will be available. The funds-availability date on the receipt can tell you when it may be time to contact the bank regarding hold inquiries. If you don't receive a receipt, however, consider contacting your bank.

The Reserve Bank of India has stated that cheque clearance will be expedited to within a few hours. Currently, the process takes approximately two to three days. This announcement was made by the governor of the Reserve Bank of India during the Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
Checks that arrive at your bank on one day are processed as they come in and are posted to your account sometime between midnight and 4:00 AM the next day. That's what we were told when I worked at the USAA Federal Savings Bank.
