For each child: under 6 years of age: $7,997 per year ($666.41 per month) 6 to 17 years of age: $6,748 per year ($562.33 per month)
If you don't receive your CCB payment on the expected payment date, before you contact us, you can: Check the status of your payment in your CRA account. Make sure your personal information is up to date. Check other reasons for stopped or changed payments.
Even though child tax credit payments are scheduled to arrive on certain dates, you may not have gotten the money as expected for a few reasons. The IRS may not have an up-to-date mailing address or banking information for you.
You can check the status of your application in your CRA account or on our Check CRA processing times web page. The Canada child benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.
The $1,200 payment is a one-time direct deposit issued by the Canada Revenue Agency for seniors classified as low income based on their most recent tax return. The payment is not a loan, does not need to be repaid and does not replace existing monthly benefits.
The CTC operates as a partially refundable tax credit, not as monthly payments as in some prior years. To qualify for the CTC, your qualifying child must be under 17 at the end of the tax year, live with you for more than half the year, be your dependent child, and meet citizenship requirements.
You may be eligible to receive the Canada child benefit (CCB) if you live with and care for a child who is under 18 years old, and you meet all of the other criteria. The CCB amount is calculated based on your adjusted family net income, and the number and ages of eligible children.

Qualifications for the Child Tax Credit depend on several factors including the child's age, relationship, residency, and the taxpayer's income. Use Schedule 8812 and Form 1040 to claim the Child Tax Credit on your individual tax return.
If an individual does not have a number listed with CRA, have them call 1-833-995-2336 (after 2 weeks) and explain they submitted the documentation and want a status update.
Gather supporting documents
To receive a copy of your child's credit report, you will need to contact three main credit bureaus — Experian™, Equifax ® and TransUnion ® — to see if they have a report on file for your child. You can do this by accessing their websites or calling.
Starting in July, most families with children will get child tax credit payments in their bank account. People who receive payments by direct deposit will get their first payment by July 15 and payments will go out on the 15th of the month each month after that until the end of 2021.
The Additional Child Tax Credit allows you to receive up to $1,700 of the $2,200 CTC per child as a refund for 2025. To determine whether you're eligible to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit, fill out the Child Tax Credit Worksheet in the Form 1040 instructions.
Eligibility Criteria Explained
Must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes. Should have filed a valid 2024 income tax return. Annual net income should not exceed the CRA's low-income threshold. Must already qualify for at least one CRA benefit (e.g., GST Credit, Climate Action Incentive, or Canada Workers Benefit).
The Low-Income Seniors' Benefit consists of a $400 annual payment for those in receipt of the following federal programs: the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance for the Survivor, or the Allowance.
If you received a payment of $600 this was probably a one time non-taxable disability payment from the government during the pandemic. This payment was meant to pay for any outstanding expense as a result to the pandemic and was given to those who: Qualified for the disability tax credit (DTC)

If you didn't receive advance payments
You can claim the full amount of the 2021 Child Tax Credit if you're eligible — even if you don't normally file a tax return. To claim the full Child Tax Credit, file a 2021 tax return.
