Once you've made your purchases and have enough cash back saved up, it's quite easy to redeem your rewards. On the card issuer's website, there will typically be a redemption portal where you can see what you've earned and choose how you want to redeem it.
You generally can get cash back from your credit card by making eligible purchases and then requesting your rewards as a statement credit, check or transfer to an eligible bank account. Depending on your card and the rewards program, you may also be able to set up automatic redemptions.
If you just have the Freedom card, those 20,000 points are worth $200 in cash back, so you're getting a 40% return on that first $500 of spending.
The simplest way to calculate the value of your credit card points is to divide the dollar value of the reward by the number of points required to redeem it. For example, if it takes 50,000 points to get a $650 airplane ticket, your points are worth about 1.3 cents each.

You simply type the gift card or egift card number into the website's shopping cart and complete the transaction. Whether the gift card is plastic or electronic, using it online is especially easy if you have a store gift card, also known as a closed loop gift card.
When you earn a certain amount of cash back, some card issuers will automatically give you a statement credit. Other issuers will allow you to schedule cash transfers to your bank account or send a check when your rewards reach a certain threshold.
There is no limit to the number of points you can redeem to travel for free. However, if you don't have enough points to travel for free, you can use your Scotiabank Rewards Visa card for the balance. Starting with as little as 5,000 Scotia Rewards points, you can still save $50 on your choice of travel.
