In Australia, you can generally backdate your GST registration for up to 4 years from the date the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) processes the request. This allows for claiming eligible GST credits on past purchases but also requires lodging outstanding activity statements and paying GST on sales made during that period.
4-year credit time limit
If you account for GST on a cash basis, the earliest tax period in which you could claim a GST credit for a purchase is the tax period in which you make the payment. If you make the payment over multiple tax periods, the 4-year credit time limit applies separately to each part of the payment.

An interest on late payment of GST is of 18% per annum and will be charged for the days after the due date.
The Indian Government has amended the GST Rules, 2022, to provide that failure to file monthly or quarterly GST reports in form GSTR 3B for a continuous period of 6 months, or for two consecutive tax periods or simply GST not filed for 6 months continuously, would henceforth result in GST registration cancellation.

Interest Charged On Late GST Filings
A late fee of Rs 50 each day (Rs 25 charged for CGST and Rs 25 charged for SGST) for any tax liability and Rs 20 each day (Rs 10 charged for CGST and Rs 10 charged for SGST) in case of zero tax liability is subjected to a cap of Rs 5,000.
You face a penalty when you file your GST/HST return late if you owe money. The penalty equals 1% of your unpaid amount plus 0.25% of that amount for each full month your return is late. The maximum penalty period is 12 months. After that, no additional monthly charges apply.
Late submission penalty. A late submission penalty of $200 is imposed immediately when the GST return is not filed by the due date. Penalties for a late GST return
GST returns are due every two months or six months, depending on the option you chose when you registered. You'll be charged a penalty for late filing – $50 if you're on the payments basis; $250 if you're on the hybrid or invoice basis.
