GST returns are generally filed monthly, quarterly, or annually, depending on the business's turnover, location, and specific tax regulations. High-turnover businesses usually file monthly, while smaller enterprises may opt for quarterly or annual filings to reduce compliance costs.
Filing GST returns
Two-monthly means more paperwork but can be easier to keep track of. Six-monthly filing is only available if your turnover is less than $500,000 (although some exceptions apply), and it might be good if you don't have a lot of expenses or invoices.

What is the Minimum Turnover Limit for GST Registration? Businesses are required to register for GST and pay tax on their annual turnover if their annual revenue exceeds Rs. 40 lakhs in the case of goods supplied and Rs. 20 lakhs for the supply of services.
Late submission penalty. A late submission penalty of $200 is imposed immediately when the GST return is not filed by the due date. A further penalty of $200 is imposed for every completed month that the GST F5/F8 return remains outstanding. The maximum penalty amount for each outstanding F5/F8 return is $10,000.

GST Updates & Amendments in 2025: Key Changes to Know
One of the key GST updates under 2.0 reform is that it simplified the GST tax structure from a 4-slab (5%, 12%, 18% and 28%) to a 3-slab (5%, 18% and 40%). GST Council, however, meets every quarter to improve the system.
