To obtain a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card, you must complete certified Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training, which is typically provided by employers in healthcare, education, or social services, or through authorized CPI instructors. The training involves learning de-escalation and safety techniques, followed by a test to receive the physical card, which confirms your certification.
Following the completion of your CPI training, your Certified Instructor will provide a physical copy of your Blue Card™. The Certified Instructor who facilitated your training will document the training date, details, and expiration of your Blue Card™ certification online in CPI's system.

The Certified Prevention Intern (CPI) credential is an entry-level certification; and is not eligible for reciprocity with IC&RC Member States. Certificate is issued for a two-year period and is eligible for re-certification.
