To use tap-to-pay (Apple Pay) on an iPhone 7, double-click the home button while the phone is locked or on the home screen, authenticate with Touch ID, and hold the top of your phone near the contactless reader. iPhone 7 supports NFC for contactless payments, but not the Back Tap accessibility feature.
To make an in-store purchase with your iPhone X , iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus iPhone® 7, iPhone® 7 Plus, iPhone® 6, iPhone® 6S, iPhone® 6 Plus, or iPhone® 6S Plus, just hold your device near the contactless reader with your finger while holding down Touch ID™.

To use your default card: If your iPhone has Face ID, double-click the side button. If prompted, authenticate with Face ID or enter your passcode to open Apple Wallet. If your iPhone has Touch ID, double-click the Home button.
The iPhone 7 is no longer supported for major iOS updates, having been capped at iOS 15 after Apple released iOS 16 in 2022, meaning it misses new features, compatibility, and crucial security patches, leaving it vulnerable and causing many apps to stop working or updating, with security support likely ending by 2024-2025 as it transitions to obsolete status.
To set up Tap to Pay on iPhone, enable it in the payment app of your choice. To accept a payment, open the app, enter the amount, and present your iPhone to your customer. To pay, the customer holds their card horizontally or places their device directly over the payment symbol.
Pay with your default card on an iPhone with Face ID
The iPhone 7 can read all standard NFC chips including the popular NTAG series and iCode SLIX tags. As with Android, Seritag recommended avoiding the larger memory NTAG216 chips. The iPhone 7 has a relatively small and focused NFC antenna.
Apple has designated the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 as 'vintage' devices, indicating that they have surpassed the company's typical support lifecycle and are now obsolete in terms of repair and software updates.

Use an iPhone XS or newer. To check if your device is compatible, go to our device compatibility page. Tap to Pay on iPhone is not available on iPads. Make sure your iOS software is updated to the latest version.
The new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus both come with a new home button that simulates clicks but doesn't actually move. It also has a couple of quirks.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, then tap Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch. Choose the touch duration—Fast or Slow. On an iPhone with 3D Touch, you can also choose the pressure needed—Light, Medium, or Firm. Test your new settings on the image at the bottom of the screen.
You can double-tap or triple-tap the back of iPhone to perform actions such as taking a screenshot, turning on an accessibility feature, running a shortcut, and more. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap, then choose an action.
