If Zelle payments don't go through, verify the recipient's email or phone number is correctly linked to their Zelle account. Ensure your bank app or Zelle app is updated and connected to a supported bank account. Check for network connectivity issues and confirm your device's date and time settings are accurate.
If your payment is pending, we recommend confirming that the person you sent money to has enrolled with Zelle® and that you entered the correct email address or U.S. mobile phone number. If you're waiting to receive money, check to see if you've received a payment notification via email or text message.
Common types of Zelle scams
Impersonation scams: Fraudsters pose as bank representatives or trusted contacts, convincing users to send money. Fake sales: Users are tricked into paying for goods or services that do not exist, often through classified ads or social media platforms.
You can send, request or receive money with Zelle ®. To get started, log in to BMO Digital Banking and select “Pay & Transfer” found at the top of your screen if you log in using a web browser, or at the bottom of your screen if you log in through the mobile app.
A hold protects you from using the deposited amount if the check is rejected and returned from the payer's bank.
As of April 1, 2025, Zelle has officially shut down its standalone app.
If your recipient is enrolled with Zelle®, money is typically available within minutes. However, there are circumstances when the payment may take longer. For example, if your recipient isn't enrolled, they will need to enroll to receive their money.
Zelle errors often stem from incorrect recipient info, bad internet, or app glitches, so first check the email/phone number, ensure a strong Wi-Fi/data connection, and restart the app/phone; if it persists, update the app, clear cache (Android), check your bank's Zelle limits, or contact your bank or Zelle support for issues like a frozen account or enrollment conflicts.

Mostly because of concerns about fraud, liability, and a lack of control over the platform. Here are the main reasons some financial institutions, like Family First, are deciding Zelle just isn't worth the risk. Zelle has a reputation for being a breeding ground for scams and fraud.
Bank transactions might not be happening today due to it being a bank holiday (like a federal holiday in the US), the weekend, or a technical issue/outage, with specific delays common for transfers (ACH, international) that require processing time, merchant finalization, or security checks; check your bank's status online or look for holiday calendars.
Just like a regular Interac e-Transfer®§ transaction, some are sent to the recipient immediately, and some take about 30 minutes before the recipient receives the money.
Incorrect recipient details, outdated app versions, technical outages, [+1-(866)-323-9007]or insufficient funds can also cause failures. Even a mismatch between your phone number and the Zelle directory may stop payments.
After they enroll, it may take 1 to 3 business days to receive the money you sent, depending on processing times. (This is a security feature.) Once that payment completes, your recipient will typically receive future payments faster.
