The various methods of payment of GST include Net banking, Debit card/credit card, Immediate Payment Services (IMPS) and Unified Payment Interface (UPI). Visit the GST portal. Navigate to Services > Payments > Create challan.
GST Payment Modes
You can make your GST payments online by using net banking, debit card, and credit card. It is not mandatory for you to log into the GST portal to pay using the online methods. You can make an online payment using most of the popular banks in India.
Section 80 and Rule 158 allow businesses to pay GST dues in installments, which in turn helps them overcome cash flow challenges. Taxpayers are required to apply through the GST portal, submit Form GST DRC-20, and justify their request with the help of financial proof.
There are 4 types of GST in India, they are: CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) SGST (State Goods and Services. IGST (Integrated Goods and Services Tax)
To make the GST payment post-login to the GST Portal once the challan is generated, perform the following steps:
Pay at Bank Counter (Over the Counter Payment at the Branches of select Authorised Banks) RTGS / NEFT (through any bank having such facility) Payment Gateway (using sub-payment modes as Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, and UPI of any Bank)
Apply for an Instalment Payment Plan
IRAS offers the option to apply for an instalment payment plan if you cannot pay your GST in full by the due date.
Penalties for a late GST return
GST returns are due every two months or six months, depending on the option you chose when you registered. You'll be charged a penalty for late filing – $50 if you're on the payments basis; $250 if you're on the hybrid or invoice basis.
Payment plans
If you have a GST debt you can't pay in full or on time you may be able to enter into a payment plan. A payment plan allows you to pay small amounts (agreed to by the ATO and you) either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, over a specified time, until your debt is cleared.
Subtracting GST from Price
To calculate how much GST was included in the price, divide the total price by 11 ($1000∕11=$90.91). To calculate the price without GST, divide the price by 1.1 ($1000∕1.1=$909.09).
The New GST Rate Structure
The old four-slab structure (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) has been simplified. The 12% and 28% slabs were eliminated and replaced with a new structure, which is now primarily 0%, 5%, 18%, and a 40% rate for luxury and “sin” goods.
If the taxpayer is unable to pay GST on time due to some reason, an interest is charged on the GST payment. An interest on late payment of GST is of 18% per annum and will be charged for the days after the due date.
The penalty for late GST/HST filing is 1% of any amount you owe, plus an extra 0.25% for each full month your payment is overdue, up to 12 months. If the CRA issues a formal demand to file and you ignore it, they add another $250 penalty even if you don't owe any tax.
If your GST turnover is below the $75,000 threshold, you may choose to register. But if you do, regardless of your turnover, you must: include GST in the price of most goods and services you sell. claim GST credits for most business purchases you make.
To make instalment payments online, you may use your bank or credit union's online banking site or mobile banking app. You do not need a remittance voucher to pay online. You have to start charging GST/HST on the supply that made you exceed $30,000. You exceed the $30,000 threshold 1 over the previous four (or fewer) consecutive calendar quarters (but not in a single calendar quarter).
Under the GST law, penalty for late filing of GST returns include a late fee of Rs. 50 per day (Rs. 25 each under CGST and SGST) for delayed return filing, capped at Rs. 5,000, and an interest rate of 18% per annum on outstanding tax amounts.
No Statute of Limitations for Unfiled Returns
The IRS does not apply a statute of limitations to unfiled tax returns. The clock that limits how long the IRS can assess tax or pursue collection does not start until a tax return is actually filed.
Credit or debit card (authorized banks only) National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) or real-time gross settlement (RTGS) (any bank, authorized or unauthorized) Over-the-counter (OTC) payment (authorized banks only) for deposits up to ten thousand rupees per challan and per tax period.
If you owe taxes to the IRS, but can't afford to pay, or can't pay without significant hardship, you may qualify for “currently not collectible” (CNC) status. Getting into CNC doesn't make your debt go away, but the IRS will stop trying to collect the money (except from refunds) for as long as you are unable to pay.
