Your refund status will appear around: 24 hours after you e-file a current-year return. 3 or 4 days after you e-file a prior-year return. 4 weeks after you file a paper return.
Pending status means that the IRS has received your return but have not started to process it yet. It is not unusual for it to take a little bit longer during busy times for the IRS.
If you have just requested a refund, it may take up to 72 hours for them to inform you whether it has been approved or rejected. If the refund has already been approved, it may take between 3 to 5 business days to reflect in your payment method. This is why it shows as pending for either of these reasons.
