GST in the USA is called Sales Tax. Unlike a national GST/VAT, the US uses a decentralized system where 45 states and local jurisdictions levy their own individual sales taxes at the point of purchase. Rates vary by state, county, and city, often averaging between 3% and 7%.
The U.S. is one of the few countries that does not charge VAT or GST. Instead, the U.S. uses state sales tax as its method of taxation.
VAT (Value Added Tax) and GST (Goods and Services Tax) are fundamentally the same type of consumption tax, levied on goods and services at each stage of the supply chain, but the terms are used in different countries and can have structural differences, with GST often being a unified, simpler system replacing multiple taxes (like VAT, sales tax, excise duty) into one, as seen in India and Canada. Both ensure the final consumer pays the tax, while businesses get credits for tax paid on inputs, but specific implementation, rates, and administration vary by country (e.g., EU uses VAT, India uses GST).
The generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax is imposed on transfers to grandchildren and more remote descendants that exceed the exemption limits so transferors cannot avoid transfer taxes on the next generation by "skipping" a generation.

The Goods & Service Tax (GST) in India replaced the Value Added Tax (VAT) and integrated all of the indirect taxes in India on July 1, 2017, into one single tax. The key benefit of it is that GST not only simplifies compliance but also eliminates the cascading effect of taxes.
The U.S. does not operate a VAT system. Instead, it applies sales tax at the final point of sale, which is collected by the seller and remitted to the appropriate state or local authority.
GST is a federal tax applied across Canada at a rate of 5%. HST is a combined tax merging GST with PST, applied in certain provinces with varying rates. PST is a provincial tax administered separately by each province that imposes it.

The trust pays your child income for life with the remainder passing outside of your child's taxable estate to your grandchildren or future generations after your child is deceased.
For example, there is a difference between GST & Tax (usually the short form for income tax). It is important to remember that they are not the same. Income tax is a tax on profit while GST is a tax on consumption. GST is the tax you pay on goods or services you purchase.

There isn't one single "highest tax paying country" as it depends on what's measured (income, corporate, total tax revenue), but countries like Denmark, Finland, Japan, and Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) consistently rank highest for top personal income tax rates, often exceeding 50-60%, while nations like Belgium can have the highest overall tax burden on labor (tax wedge) for average earners, with high social security. Nordic countries and some European nations generally have high income taxes, funding extensive social services.
