A Powerful Prayer for Getting Out of Debt
Dear God, I pray for relief from the burden and unbearable weight of debt. I'm so thankful that even though I may have made bad choices that got me into debt, You are much bigger than my mistakes. I ask for deliverance from the stress of debt.
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Matthew 6:12 - Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matthew 18:27, 30, 32, 34 - Forgive because your debts have been forgiven. Luke 7:42-43 - He who is forgiven much (debt) loves much; he who is forgiven little (debt) loves little. Romans 4:4 - Wages, like a debt owed, must be paid.
Focus on one account at a time.
Logic—and math—will dictate that you focus on paying off the debt with the highest interest rate first. The sooner you get that paid off, the less interest charges you'll pay and the more money you'll have to pay off your other debts.
“Heavenly Father, I lift this person up to you and put this situation in your hands. Please give me wisdom. Please bless this person financially so they will never feel the need to borrow in the future. Your ways are not our ways.
ESV Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. NIV Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. NASB One who is gracious to a poor person lends to the Lord, And He will repay him for his good deed.
Prayer for financial breakthrough:
"Dear God, I pray for a breakthrough in my financial situation. Please open doors and create opportunities for me to increase my income and achieve financial freedom."
If you're in debt, tithing should still be a priority. Listen, I know it's tempting to throw that money at your debt, but the discipline and faith that tithing brings are so worth it. Even while you're paying down debt, you can still have an attitude of generosity.
Romans 13:8 (AMPC) tells us to Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another... My husband, Dave, says that if we learn to live within our income, or our borders, then God will bless us.
You are the God who provides all my needs according to your riches in Glory. I come to You as I am struggling financially, asking for your provision. Remove my fear, doubt, and unbelief. Fill me with Your peace and confidence in the promise of your care for me in time of need.
Father, in Jesus' name, I'm asking for Your strategies. I trust Your generosity and know You want to lead me to wisdom. So give me Your wisdom to do the right things and make the right moves to get out of debt quickly. Father, in Jesus' name, I'm asking for a sustainable income.
Father, I present my finances before You, and I pray for a financial miracle—an increase in wealth and a decrease in losses. I desire to let go of the stress and depression that a lack of money has caused me. Amen.”
Psalm 121:2 (NIV) – “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Proverbs 22:4 (KJV) – “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” Psalm 128:2 (NIV) – “You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.”
“The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” – Proverbs 10:22 (NIV) God's blessing can lead to wealth and prosperity in a way that does not require excessive labour. This verse suggests that God's favour can bring you financial success without the burden of strenuous effort.
“And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
One example comes from Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven you.” In this sentence, Paul has summarized the biblical message: that we are to be kind, compassionate and forgiving.
ESV Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands! NIV May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Lord, we surrender our debts to you, knowing that you are able to provide for all our needs. We trust that you will supply us with the means to overcome this financial struggle and to live a life of abundance. Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness and for the promise of freedom from debt.
Psalms 37:21-22 The Passion Translation (TPT)
They break their promises, borrowing money but never paying it back. The good man returns what he owes with some extra besides. YAHWEH's blessed ones receive the land, but the cursed ones will be cut off with nothing to show for themselves.
