The highest credit card color is black, in large part because of the ultra-exclusive Centurion® Card from American Express, which is also known as
The Black Card is an exclusive charge card offered to high-net-worth individuals by invitation only. The Platinum Card is one tier lower.
There's no credit limit
The American Express Black Card doesn't have a pre-set spending limit, so cardholders can spend as much as they want every month. But that's only the case if they can afford it. The Centurion® Card from American Express is a charge card, so cardholders can't carry a balance.
Gold credit cards are a step up from standard cards; platinum credit cards are typically above gold, and black credit cards sit at the top of the pack.
The most exclusive credit card is the American Express Centurion Card, also known as the Amex Black Card. It is reportedly reserved for people who spend at least $100,000 per year, and an invitation is needed to apply.
According to Weiss, one of the most recommended cards for high-net-worth individuals is The Platinum Card® from American Express . While this card comes with a wide range of perks that make it seem too good to be true, it also comes with an annual fee of $695 (See Rates), which is higher than most other credit cards.
The Mastercard Black Card is a poor choice for collecting reward points. The card's base rewards rate – one point per dollar of spending – is meager and does not suffice to balance out the card's $495 annual fee ($195 for each Authorized User added to the account).
With the middle-tier Black Card, you'll earn 1 point for every dollar you spend. When you go to redeem, you'll get a 2% redemption value for airfare and a 1.5% redemption value for cash back. The Luxury Card™ Mastercard® Titanium Card™ gives you 1 point for every dollar you spend, regardless of where you spend it.
There is not a major difference when you compare the credit cards of the platinum and the titanium tiers. The providers that offer a Titanium credit card often offer them as a step above the Platinum credit cards. You have to fulfill strict criteria to be eligible for holding these cards.
Platinum cards give higher minimum credit limits than gold cards, which can be a bonus if you spend a lot on credit and can responsibly manage your credit card payments. Platinum cards charge higher annual fees than gold cards offered by the same provider.
But we have it on good authority that celebrities including Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Jerry Seinfeld, who reportedly received the first-ever Black Card, all carry it. Collectively there are thought to be fewer than 20,000 AmEx Centurion cardholders around the world.
Luxury Card™ Mastercard® Black Card™, $495 annual fee.
In order to qualify for the Mastercard® Gold Card™, you will need to have 720 - 850 credit and be able to afford the annual fee of $995 ($295 for each Authorized User added to the account).
Although Amex doesn't publish requirements for the card—or its perks, for that matter—it typically extends black card invitations only to high earners who have spent and paid off between $350,000 and $500,000 across all of their American Express accounts in a calendar year.
Good credit required.
The same good or excellent credit needed to get the Mastercard Black Card also qualifies you for the market's best travel rewards cards. So if you check your credit score and discover that it fits the bill, make sure to check out those other offers.
Our most-popular card. The Visa Diamond card offers our lowest rate, saving you hundreds of dollars per year compared to the "Big Bank" cards. Low rate, no annual fee, serviced locally and accepted worldwide.
For example, the Mastercard® Titanium Card™ requirements include having a credit score of 720 - 850 and being able to afford the annual fee of $195 ($95 for each Authorized User added to the account).
What is a black card? A black credit card is a type of extremely exclusive credit card that is almost solely reserved for the ultrawealthy. Typically, the cards are available on an invitation-only basis. The threshold for entry into this elite echelon of card ownership is incredibly high, as are the annual fees.
The highest level American Express card is the Centurion card, which is also known as the 'black card.
If you consider yourself a foodie, the American Express® Gold Card could be the ideal luxury card for you. This card earns a competitive 4X points per dollar spent at restaurants and 4X points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per year in purchases, then 1X).
The Gold card is geared toward people who are big shoppers, eat out a lot, and do a lot of everyday spending. A Gold card costs $250 per year, and a Platinum card costs $695 annually. Platinum cards must be paid off in full every month. Gold card owners can carry over certain balances with interest.
Amex has an invite-only Centurion 'black' card with a $5,000 annual fee and several luxury perks, but you can get many of its benefits with the Amex Platinum.
Naturally, the Luxury Card™ Mastercard® Black Card™ requires an excellent credit score, usually 720 or higher on the FICO index.
