ACH transfer times take anywhere from a few hours to three business days, depending on the time of day the payment is initiated and whether same-day processing has been requested.
A night cycle, created in 1979, is used to process Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers (debits and credits) at night—generally between 10:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Payments to customers at other banks
When you make a one-off payment, automatic payment, direct credit, or bill payment to a customer of another bank between 9am-11:55pm, we'll take the money from your account as soon as you make the payment. Then we'll send the payment to the other bank, normally within an hour.
Domestic wire transfers are incredibly fast. Most times, you can expect to see funds landed within 24 hours. This is because domestic wire transfers tend to process same-day, with landed funds arriving next day as the bank opens.
Settlement for ACH items not eligible for same day will occur at 8:30 a.m. ET on the later of (i) the next banking day or (ii) the settlement date that results from the application of paragraph 3 of Appendix B of Operating Circular 4.
Your specific bank transfer time will vary depending on a range of factors, including fraud prevention, different currencies, different time zones, and bank holidays/weekends. In general, the bank transfer time will be around one to five working days.
Check your bank account balance: Log in to your online banking platform or check your account statement to see if the funds have been deposited. The balance should reflect the transferred amount. 2. Look for transaction details: Review your transaction history or statement to find the incoming transfer.
What time of day does direct deposit hit? Usually, you'll have access to your direct deposit at the opening of business on your payday — by 9 a.m. In many cases, direct deposits hit accounts even earlier, often between midnight and 6 a.m. on payday morning.
The money leaves your account immediately. It's usually available within 2 hours. For some banks, it can take up to close of business the next working day.
If money is transferred but not received, the sender should contact the bank or service used to initiate the transfer to track the transaction. They can also contact the recipient's bank to inquire if the funds have been received.
This is because some financial institutions update their accounts a few hours after midnight. However, most banks complete the direct deposit before 6 a.m., allowing many consumers to wake up the next day with the funds sitting in their accounts.
If you make a transfer before 6pm (AEST/AEDT) on a business day, the payee will usually get the funds the following business day. If it's after 6pm (AEST/AEDT) or on a weekend or public holiday they'll get the funds within two business days.
The receiving bank is still processing the money
But some banks are slower than others — they might take up to 1 working day for them to release the money. So your money's safely on its way, but the recipient bank is still processing it. Your recipient can ask their bank to speed this up.
Domestic transfers typically take up to 24 hours and are often completed the same day if initiated before the same day wire transfer cut off time. Factors like weekends, bank holidays, and processing times of the receiving bank can impact how long a wire transfer takes to show up.
Payments to another person, business or account with another bank. If you are making a payment after 6.30pm, on a weekend, or a Bank holiday, the payment will normally leave you account immediately and be available in the recipient bank account within a few hours.
We send payments to other banks every hour between 9am and midnight every day. Payments submitted after midnight will be sent after 9am. Depending on the receiving bank's timeframes, the recipient could see the money in their account quickly after you make a payment or it may show overnight.
Payments will generally be received the same day they were sent as banks will exchange payments throughout the day. This will occur at least every hour from 9am to midnight, every day including weekends and public holidays.
Same-day transactions must be received by 11:30am ET. NSCC validates the trade. This guarantees it will be completed even in the event of a default. Transaction is sent to DTC to be settled almost instantaneously on the same day.
Where you're sending or receiving funds. Domestic wire transfer: Due to EFAA regulations, most bank-to-bank wire transfers between accounts in the US are completed within 24 hours. Some banks make wired funds available to recipients immediately, especially on transfers between accounts at the same institution.
How long it takes for an EFT payment to clear heavily depends on what type of transaction is being performed. Debit card and ATM transactions often clear instantly. ACH transactions typically clear the next day. International transactions might take longer — often two business days.
If you've sent money to yourself or someone else, the transfer can show as pending while we run checks to help make sure your account is safe. This means it might take a little longer for the money to reach its destination, sometimes up to two hours.
