PayByPhone is a widely used mobile parking payment service available in over 1,300 cities across North America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It enables users to pay for parking via an app, phone, or website, commonly used at on-street, off-street, university, and commercial locations.
PayByPhone uses Twilio SMS to send one-way notifications to motorists 5 minutes before their parking time expires, allowing them to add time without returning to their vehicle, and therefore avoid parking tickets.
PayByPhone implements service fees to cover payment processing and overhead costs, crucial for our operational sustainability. Some parking operators cover these charges for their patrons. In certain cases, service fees include SMS notifications for opted-in users, covering mobile network costs.
The location code is a unique number associated with a parking space, machine or off-street lot. To find your location code, you can use our geolocation, or interactive map or manually input the location code displayed on the closest parking machine.
PayByPhone is a mobile payments provider that facilitates parking payments from drivers to the Parking Operator via our app, website, and automated phone service. Once your payment is confirmed, the parking company can query your plate or stall and location code to check if the plate has been validated.
The parking officer verifies your parking session by matching the license plate to the zone number.

How does it work? ANPR technology at participating car parks is integrated with the PayByPhone cashless payment service. Your entry and exit times in the car park are monitored, ensuring you pay the correct amount for your parking session.
If you received a ticket in error despite having a valid PayByPhone parking session, you will need to appeal the charge, following the process outlined on the ticket. Note: PayByPhone cannot handle Parking Charge Notice (PCN) appeals on behalf of customers.
ANPR cameras register the vehicle driving in and out of the car park, and, based on that data, calculate the length of stay against the posted rate. PayByPhone automatically takes payment from your preferred payment method that has been previously set up in the app.
There is no cost to download or access the PayByPhone platforms. However, some parking operators may apply a transaction fee each time a parking payment is processed.
