PayByPhone may not accept your card due to authorization failures, insufficient funds, or invalid card information, such as an expired card or incorrect CVV/billing address. Other common reasons include bank-initiated fraud holds, unsupported card types for that location, or network connectivity issues during the transaction.
👉The card type is not accepted at the location.
The parking operator has not set up their merchant account to allow for your payment type. For example, you may be used to using Apple Pay – with Visa, but the location you are trying to pay with accepts Visa.
Your card may be declined for a number of reasons: the card has expired; you're over your credit limit; the card issuer sees suspicious activity that could be a sign of fraud; or a hotel, rental car company, or other business placed a block (or hold) on your card for its estimated total of your bill.
Remove or update expired cards
Find the payment method you are trying to use for the purchase. Check the expiration date of the payment methods listed. Remove or update any expired payment methods.
Troubleshooting steps:
Easy to pay
Connect your credit or debit card to your PayByPhone account, and pay quickly and securely. Or, where available, opt for Google Pay or Apple Pay to complete transactions.
There are many reasons a credit or debit card might be declined – for example, the card has expired, there are insufficient funds, or one of the parties in the payment ecosystem detects fraudulent activity.
Make sure you have enough money in your account for the purchase. If you're still having issues, contact your bank to find if there's a problem with your account. Try making the purchase again with a different payment method.
There are multiple reasons why a card transaction may decline. It may be due to the physical card, the linked account, a connection issue or merchant error.
To fix a declined debit card, first check the basics: correct card details, sufficient funds, and a valid expiration date; then, try the transaction again, but if it fails, contact your bank immediately to check for fraud blocks, ATM limits, or other security issues, as they can often unblock it after verifying your identity.
The card holder should contact their issuing bank. An invalid card number means that the card is likely closed at the card issuing bank and is effectively an invalid card. If the cardholder says that the card is not closed, then the cardholder should contact the card issuing bank to resolve the issue.
Incorrect UPI Details (VPA or UPI Number)
Customers may enter a wrong UPI ID (VPA) or inactive UPI number, leading to failed or declined payments. Features like Validate VPA and UPI Number Validation ensure that customer details are accurate and active before initiating a payment.

The 2/3/4 rule is a guideline, primarily used by Bank of America, that limits how many new credit cards you can get: no more than 2 in 30 days, 3 in 12 months, and 4 in 24 months, helping to prevent over-application and manage hard inquiries on your credit report. While not universal, it's a useful benchmark for responsible card application, though other banks have different rules (like Chase's 5/24 rule).
PayByPhone implements service fees to cover payment processing and overhead costs, crucial for our operational sustainability. Some parking operators cover these charges for their patrons. In certain cases, service fees include SMS notifications for opted-in users, covering mobile network costs.
You can pay your public parking fees with complete ease from anywhere and at any time simply by sending a WhatsApp message or an SMS to 7275.
PayByPhone adheres to PCI Level 1 compliance and is audited yearly to ensure its compliance with security standards. 👉 All accounts are password protected. 👉 As an added layer, parking operators have added CVV code and or secondary authentication entry as a mandatory step to adding a new payment card.
Incorrectly entered card details are one of the most common reasons card transactions fail. When making a purchase online using a browser or mobile app, it's easy to add an extra digit, incorrect security code or expiry date. If there isn't an obvious numerical error, the billing address may be outdated.
Double-check your payment information like your credit card number, expiration date, and billing address, when making online purchases to ensure the payment goes through. If your credit card is declined and you're not sure why, it's always best to contact your card issuer to get a clear answer.
