If the payment isn't made, always contact the company you owe as you might face penalties for paying late. You can explain what's happened and ask for another way to pay.
Newly set up direct debits will only show on Digital Banking once the first payment has been taken from your account. After the first payment has been taken it will display on your statement, and you will be able to view it alongside any other existing direct debits.
How long do Direct Debits take to clear? Direct Debits run on the three-day Bacs cycle and so take at least three days to clear. Due to the batched nature of Direct Debit file transmission submission times can result in delayed clearance.
Direct Debits leave your account on weekdays, excluding bank holidays. If a payment falls on a weekend or bank holiday, the company will take it on the next available working day instead. There is no set time for a Direct Debit to leave your account, but early morning debits (1am to 7am) are the most common.
They are usually cleared within half an hour, or by the end of the working day. Some banks can take up to three working days. Also, if the DD is for a large amount, it will only be credited to a bank account and not provided as cash.
Another reason why a Direct Debit hasn't been taken is because the date of payment may well be during a weekend or Bank Holiday. If a Direct Debit is meant to be taken on the 24th of the month, for example, but that falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday, the payment will be processed on the next working day.
These could be things you've bought with your debit card that haven't yet been processed. Other pending transactions won't be reflected in your available balance, such as cheques that haven't cleared and Direct Debits.

What happens if my direct debit bounces? Your bank will typically try to process the payment again. If it fails again, they may charge you a fee. You should also contact the company you owe money to explain the situation and make alternative payment arrangements.

The exact timeline for direct deposit can vary depending on several factors, including your employer's payroll processing practices, the financial institutions involved, and even the day of the week. Typically, the processing time can range from one to three business days.
It is common for banks not to authorize certain transactions based on their internal policies. When a payment fails, it is likely due to filters the bank applies to certain transactions made online, or amount limitations applied to the card.
This can vary from bank to bank but typically takes 1-2 business days. Bank holidays and weekends: If you're expecting a direct deposit 1 on a weekend or a bank holiday, it will likely be processed on the next business day.
Most direct debits will happen first thing in the morning on the scheduled direct debit date. Direct debits should be done by 10am, however, they can occur any time between 5am and midnight on the scheduled date, depending on who you bank with.
There's not enough money in your account. The payment was higher than a Direct Debit limit that you've set with your bank. The bank has received a request to cancel the Direct Debit. The bank account has been closed or transferred to another bank.
