Pink Oyster card readers (or route validators) are used on the London TfL network to ensure passengers pay the correct, lower fare by indicating they have avoided travelling through Zone 1. They are found at specific interchange stations, allowing commuters to confirm their route, especially when bypassing central London.
Pink card readers help you pay the right fare by telling us the route you took.
The pink readers are used to track where you've been on your journey. If you're not travelling via Zone 1, it's a good idea to tap them, as you will be charged less overall for your trip. If you don't tap the pink reader TfL will assume you have travelled through Zone 1 and will charge you the higher fare.
Pink oyster mushrooms are versatile and can be used in stir-fries, salads, pasta dishes, soups, and as a meat substitute in vegetarian or vegan recipes.
Using contactless (card or device) or an Oyster card to pay as you go is the easiest way to travel. You only pay for the journeys you make and it's cheaper than buying paper tickets (train companies may offer special deals on some journeys).
It depends on your circumstances and preferences. Pay as you go with contactless and pay as you go with Oyster usually cost the same.
Yes, you can use your Oyster card on the Heathrow Express. Just like getting the tube or London Overground, you simply tap your Oyster on the ticket barriers as you enter and leave the station.
Pink oyster mushrooms are just as edible as other varieties. They do change color when cooked, but this doesn't affect their edibility. Are oyster mushrooms psychedelic? They are not psychedelic at all and don't contain any psilocybin, the component that causes psychedelic effects.
Flavor: Lemon juice adds a bright, acidic note to the briny flavor of oysters. This contrast in flavors can help to enhance the overall taste experience. Freshness: Lemon juice can help to kill any bacteria that may be present on the oysters, making them safer to eat.
If you don't touch in and out, we cannot tell where you've travelled from or to, so your journey will be incomplete. As we cannot work out the right fare for your journey, we'll charge you a maximum fare.
Cons
Yes, you can use your phone as a card reader, either by using its built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) for "Tap to Pay" with apps like Square or Shopify for contactless payments, or by connecting a small, external physical reader (like for chip/swipe) to your phone via USB-C or Lightning for more options, with both methods requiring a payment processing service. Your phone acts as the terminal, accepting payments directly (tap) or through a small dongle, making it a convenient way for businesses to accept cards.
When changing trains you may need to touch your contactless card or mobile device on a pink reader. (If you're travelling on a bus or tram you only have to touch in). Payment timeframe: You will usually be charged for your pay as you go with contactless journey within 3 days.
Buses and trams
London's buses and trams are also some of the cheapest ways to travel in London. A Hopper Fare allows you to take unlimited bus and tram journeys for £1.75 within one hour.
If you forget to tap off at the end of your trip, an amount for Missed Tap Off or Underpayment will be deducted from your PRESTO card, PRESTO in Mobile Wallet or charged to your credit or debit card at the start of your next trip in the GO network.
The biggest oyster myth that needs to be dispelled immediately is that you shouldn't chew your oysters. We recommend chewing at least four times to release the different characteristics of the oyster: brininess, minerality, and the umami flavour from the body.
When used shells go back into the water, they provide a space for the next generation of oysters to grow and thrive. Old shells help build new ones, too. Mollusk shells are rich in calcium carbonate, which can repair damaged oyster reefs.
Pink Oysters are edible and taste “seafoody” while having a slightly chewy but meaty texture and a nutty flavor. They are considered "umami mushrooms” and when cooked to a crispy texture they taste like bacon.
A mushroom high, or "trip," involves intense sensory changes (vivid colors, breathing walls, trails), altered time perception (feeling slowed down), and profound emotional shifts (euphoria, deep connection, or fear/anxiety during a "bad trip"), often feeling warmer and more connective than other psychedelics like LSD, but highly dependent on the individual's mindset ("set") and environment ("setting"). Effects can include visual distortions, enhanced music, feelings of unity with nature or the universe, introspection, and sometimes challenging or frightening experiences.
How much credit will I need? For a single journey on either the Gatwick Express or Heathrow Express, the recommended amount is £25. A day of unlimited travel in central London within zones 1-2 is currently capped at £8.90. A £30 card will cover 3 days of travel in zones 1-2.
Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines.
Two people cannot use the same Oyster card for a journey. If you only have pay as you go credit on your Oyster card, you can lend it to someone else. If you have a Travelcard, Bus & Tram Pass or discount added to your Oyster card, you cannot lend it to someone else.
