Google Wallet has replaced the standalone Google Pay app in the U.S. (since June 2024) and many other regions, consolidating digital items like payment cards, IDs, tickets, and car keys into one app, though the "Google Pay" name still refers to the contactless payment feature used at checkout via the Wallet app. The original Google Pay app's peer-to-peer (P2P) payment and deals features were discontinued, with users directed to the Wallet app or website to manage balances.

The app began rolling out on Android smartphones on July 18, replacing the 2018 app and co-existing with the 2020 Google Pay app in the U.S. While the app name itself was changed from Google Pay to Google Wallet, the service name of actually paying for things online or in-store remains as "Google Pay."

If they don't match, update your address in your Google payments centre, and try the transaction again. Try using a Google Play gift card to complete the transaction.
