Chime transactions are commonly declined due to insufficient funds, disabled card settings in the app, expired or deactivated cards (lost/stolen), or security triggers from unusual purchasing behavior. Other causes include reaching daily transaction limits, incorrect PIN entry, or merchant-specific blocks.
Make sure you're using the expiration date from your current card. If the billing address doesn't match your Chime account, the transaction may decline. See How do I update my address? Alternatively, verify that the address you entered during checkout matches your Chime account.
Your card may be declined for a number of reasons: the card has expired; you're over your credit limit; the card issuer sees suspicious activity that could be a sign of fraud; or a hotel, rental car company, or other business placed a block (or hold) on your card for its estimated total of your bill.
Verify that your payment method is correct and up to date with the utility company. If they have an outdated card or account number, the transaction may be rejected. Look for any notifications from Chime in your email or app that might explain why the payment was declined.

Amazon Chime will no longer accept new customers beginning February 19, 2025. Existing customers can continue to use Amazon Chime features, including Business Calling, scheduling and hosting meetings, adding and managing users, and other capabilities supported through the Amazon Chime administration console.
When Chime says "something went wrong," it usually means a transaction or feature is blocked for security, an app glitch, or an account issue; check the app for specific details, try again later, ensure you're sending money to trusted people, restart the app, check for Chime outages on Downdetector, or contact Chime Support, especially if you see fraud warnings or unusual activity.
If Chime won't let you transfer money, it's usually due to insufficient funds, hitting transfer limits (Pay Anyone, Instant Transfers), security blocks, or issues with linked external accounts like name/address mismatches or unsupported banks. Check your balance and limits in the app (Profile > Account Info > View Limits), ensure the recipient hasn't hit limits, and verify linked account details are correct before trying again.
Manage transactions on Chime.com
If a transaction fails, the payment is not processed, and the customer is notified of the issue. The reason for failure could range from insufficient funds, incorrect payment details, or an expired card, to technical issues with the payment gateway or fraud detection systems.

What's the in-network ATM withdrawal limit? You can withdraw up to $515 a day from your Chime account using your debit card and up to $1,015 per day with your Chime Card at an ATM.
To stay eligible for MyPay, you need to receive at least two Qualifying Direct Deposits of $200 or more into your Chime Checking Account in the preceding 36 days. If you stop receiving these deposits, you may lose access to MyPay or become ineligible to take new advances.

“Chime, the largest digital-only financial provider in the U.S., has capitalized on distrust of traditional banks and their slowness to digitize.” “It lets customers overdraw their accounts by up to $200 for free and offers a secured credit card (a plus for those with limited or poor credit histories).”
