Payment methods on an iPhone often fail due to unpaid balances, incorrect billing information, expired cards, or restrictions set by the financial institution. Other common causes include using a payment method not supported in your Apple ID region, or a mismatch between the billing address and the one on file.
There are a number of reasons the charge or verification might be declined: Apple is not allowed to accept credit or debit cards in your country. The card is not recognized in your country. Insufficient balance or account in arrears.
Remove and re-add your payment method in Settings > Apple ID > Payment & Shipping. Ensure your billing address matches your payment card. Clear any outstanding balances by contacting Apple Support if needed. Frequent verification prompts may require signing out and back into your Apple ID or resetting your password.
To fix the Netflix payment error, go to your Account settings on the Netflix website, update your card details (like zip code, CVV, expiry), contact your bank to ensure the card supports e-commerce/international payments, or try a different payment method like PayPal, as the issue often stems from insufficient funds, an expired card, or bank-side security blocks.
Change the Payment Method or Card
If your payment information is outdated or incorrect, in-app purchases won't work. Make sure your credit card or payment method is updated and working. You can easily update your payment method in your iPhone's settings to avoid this issue.
You can't download apps due to payment issues because of an unpaid balance, a declined card, or a need for updated info, even for free apps, requiring you to update payment details in Settings > [Your Name] > Payment & Shipping, pay outstanding balances, or contact your bank; check for Screen Time restrictions and try restarting your device as well.
If you can't make purchases or update apps, including free apps, update your payment method or add a new one. If you've already verified that a payment method is available in your country or region and you're still experiencing issues, contact your financial institution. Payment methods are subject to change.

About Tap to Pay

If a payment card that you use with Apple Pay is declined, it can be based on a variety of factors or rules set by your card issuer. If you have questions about why your card is declined, contact your bank or card issuer. To use Apple Pay you need a supported card from a participating card issuer.
Contact your financial institution. You might need to ask your financial institution to allow international purchases on your debit or credit card. If you want to know why a debit card, credit card, or other payment method was declined, speak with your financial institution.
See if your Face ID or Touch ID is the issue
One possible problem is if your Face ID or Touch ID isn't working properly. You can check this by switching these services off, and trying to make the Apple Pay payment again. Head to Apple's Settings app, and then look for Touch ID & Passcode, or Face ID and Passcode.
Pay with your iPhone
There are insufficient funds available on your card. Apple will only attempt to run the payment when your item is being delivered. Therefore, if there are no available funds greater than the order value in your account during this time, the transaction will decline.
Make sure date and time are correct
If the app developer hasn't made the app available in your Google Play country, you can't make in-app purchases.
If you're seeing this message while trying to subscribe: "Your payment method is not valid at this store. Please add a new payment method." This happens when your credit card's country does not match your Apple ID's region.
